Thank God for small singing miracles. There’s some exciting American Idol season 10 news to celebrate. (Since it’s early, I’m celebrating with sparkling orange juice.)

The executive producer of American Idol, Nigel Lythgoe, told TV Guide that among the changes for the new season there will no longer be a round that takes the contestants from 24 to 12. Does that rock your world? Probably not. Lythgoe noticed people didn’t really care, in fact.  “I didn’t think [the top 24] were very good, I was bored with them by the time they got there,” Lythgoe says of previous seasons.

Other new changes include: contests to make the best music video, the top 12 promoting themselves (wouldn’t they just hire a press person?), and to work with both a band and dancers for a show worthy of an awards show. (I’m guessing they won’t be happen with anything that resembles what Adam Lambert did at the AMA’s.)

This season may include more of a variety of singers. So let’s look forward for country, indie and jazz! Wouldn’t a jazz singer be an awesome idol? Hip hop? Polka? Disco?
